Continuous innovation in handling vegetables, potatoes and fruit at EMVE

When EMVE had an open house, Rollco had the opportunity to take a guided tour together with the company's project manager Patrik Gräntz. Several of the company's new machines and innovations were showcased.

Turnkey solutions, from start to finish

EMVE SWEDEN AB specialises in developing and manufacturing machinery for handling vegetable and food production. The company is located in Åstorp, in the middle of the Skåne countryside, surrounded by some of Sweden's most fertile land.
EMVE was founded in 1916 and is still a family-owned company today, over a hundred years later. The company's business concept is to offer innovative, turnkey solutions, from the delivery of freshly harvested crops to the factory, to packaging, and palletizing of the product. The majority of the market is located in the Nordic region, but EMVE has the entire world as its working area with machines in, among others, India, the USA, Canada, Mexico, Egypt and China.

From the small farmer to large-scale food production

Patrik Gräntz is a project manager at EMVE and has worked at the company for over ten years. He is one of those who has been involved in the company's joint projects with Rollco.

He takes us on a tour of the company's premises. While we get the chance to see all the newly developed machines and solutions, Patrik talks about the various projects.

“Most of the company's projects are tailored and adapted precisely to fit the end customer's production,” says Patrik. We at EMVE are often on site and carry out the final assembly ourselves at our customers' premises, he says.

The typical customer can be anything from the small farmer with small-scale packaging for farm sales to the larger players in food production on the market, says Patrik.

Rollco and EMVE's collaboration on paper packaging machine, BE7000

One of EMVE's latest innovations is the paper packaging machine, BE7000. A machine where the goal is to double the capacity compared to its predecessor, the BE6000. The machine is built from aluminium profiles, which offers a modular system with high flexibility compared to its predecessor, which was made from welded steel. The BE6000 will also remain in the range.

In this project, Rollco, in addition to contributing with the frame built from aluminium profiles, has also supplied a number of linear units and a belt conveyor. The bag magazine in the machine is also manufactured by Rollco. It is a composite construction consisting of, among other things, various aluminium profiles, a QME Linear Unit, a ball rail guide and two telescopic rails.

Proximity between design and manufacturing – a strength

EMVE's development is closely linked to their customers needs. It is often customer needs that lead the way for new innovations.
EMVE carries out all design work in-house in its design department, which consists of six people, sometimes with the addition of a couple of consultants.

- One of the strengths of this is that we are close to our production. With that, we create involvement in all the challenges we encounter, says Patrik.

Many new, exciting projects

A selection of the news that we had the opportunity to see during our visit to EMVE is:

  • BE7000 – New paper packaging machine.
  • High hygiene conveyor – With the ability to raise the conveyor belt and wash the conveyor belt while it is in operation.
  • Washing – A new updated washing system that uses sedimentation and dampers to reduce the number of pumps.
  • Soil separator – Machine that uses groups of rollers to impart movement to the product resulting in the release of as much soil as possible.
  • Plastic reduction vegetables – Machine for handling vegetables where a plant-based protection is used instead of plastic. A collaboration with the innovation company Saveggy from Lund.

Looking ahead to new opportunities

EMVE’s expectations for the future are to continue developing exciting solutions within their existing markets. They are also investing in the launch of both new and existing products in new markets, starting in the Nordic.
We wish EMVE the best of luck and thank you for the good cooperation and for the nice tour of the company.
